Risk Assessment and Analysis
Risk assessments provide a useful tool for the attainment of public safety and offender rehabilitation. As risk assessments aim to identify offenders who pose an elevated risk of recidivism, they can be used to maximise community safety by identifying individuals who require greater supervision. Consistent with the principles of best-practice for offender rehabilitation, risk assessments can also be used to screen out low-risk offenders so that they receive either none or minimal interventions. Given these benefits, Justice Modelling @ Griffith has undertaken two consultancy projects that involved reviewing available tools and developing a risk screening tool. One current project is exploring whether analytical techniques from the fields of artificial intelligence and data mining result in improved predictive validity.
