Subject prerequisites
Subject prerequisites are a compulsory requirement where prior achievement in particular studies is considered to have a direct bearing on your potential for success in the program concerned. These may include, for example, Year 12 subjects completed to a specified level of achievement, a portfolio or audition, employment or a completed qualification such as a diploma. If you do not meet the prerequisite for that particular program, the University will be unable to offer you a place.
Subject prerequisite can also be met by other forms of study apart from Year 12. For example, subjects in the Certificate of Adult Tertiary Preparation are recognised as meeting the subject prerequisite as are External senior subjects, TAFE diplomas etc. If you have not met subject prerequisites from your Year 12 study, please check out other ways you may have met subject prerequisites.
Recommended knowledge
Although the stated recommended study subjects are not compulsory, it is strongly recommended that you have knowledge of these subjects. If you do not have the recommended study, then you are not prevented from getting an offer and you will be considered on your OP or rank.
Assumed knowledge
Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of achievement in senior studies considered necessary for successful first year tertiary study. If you do not have the assumed level of knowledge, then you are not prevented from being made an offer. However, you may be disadvantaged unless you undertake recommended bridging, preparatory or introductory subjects prior to or during first year of study.
Details of prerequisites, recommended and assumed knowledge applicable for each program can be found within the entries in the program catalogue.
