Diploma and Advanced Diploma studies

Griffith University also accepts completed and partially completed Diploma and Advanced Diploma studies from TAFE and other accredited providers. Different schedules are used to distinguish between programs with competency-based assessment and graded assessment. But remember that the Rank allocated depends on tertiary success that is a GPA of at least 3.75 achieved in your study and the duration of study. See the tertiary study rules which apply to Diploma and Advanced Diploma studies.

Competency-based assessment

A program is considered to be competency based when the highest attainable assessment in at least one quarter of the course is competent, satisfactory or ungraded pass. Ranks allocated for complete and partially complete Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas using competency based assessment are detailed in the Competency based Diploma and Competency based Advanced Diploma schedules. These schedules also show how Ranks for Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas can be increased by a good result in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test.

Graded assessment

Ranks allocated for completed and partially completed Diploma and Advanced Diploma studies using graded assessment are detailed in Graded Diploma and Graded Advanced Diploma schedules. These schedules may be applied to programs that have a mixture of graded and ungraded assessment. These schedules show how Ranks for Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas are increased by a good Grade Point Average.

Dual Griffith University/TAFE qualifications

Griffith University, in conjunction with TAFE Queensland, offers a number of dual Griffith University/TAFE programs. In most of these dual programs, students study the first year at TAFE, then study subsequent years at both TAFE and Griffith University gaining both a TAFE qualification and a Griffith University degree.

Dual qualification students are made direct offers into a Griffith University degree upon satisfactorily completing the TAFE component of the dual program. Students do not need to re-apply through QTAC for their Griffith place. Dual qualifications are, therefore, an excellent pathway into Griffith University.

Completed TAFE Certificate III and Certificate IV studies

Griffith University accepts completed TAFE Certificate III and Certificate IV studies from TAFE and other accredited providers.

Ranks allocated for completed Certificate III and Certificate IV studies using graded assessment are detailed in the Graded Certificate schedule.

Ranks allocated for completed Certificate III and Certificate IV studies using competency-based assessment are detailed in the Competency-based Certificate schedule.

Credit for prior study

You may apply for credit for prior learning which includes formal study undertaken in recognised tertiary institutions in Australia, including universities, colleges, TAFE and other post-secondary education institutions. Overseas institutions will be recognised to the extent to which they are considered to be equivalent to particular types of Australian institutions. The amount of credit depends on the amount and type of study you have completed.
