Understanding Summer semester

Before you enrol in a Summer semester course, you should read the following essential information:

  • Fees and charges
  • How to apply

The rules and policies that apply during summer semester are quite unlike those of the standard semesters. Please refer to the policies below before you enrol in a summer semester course.:

  • Fees and Charges Policy
  • Student Administration Policy

Enrolment and fee deadlines

Each summer course has its own enrolment and fee deadlines and will indicate:

  • the deadline for the last day to enrol in a course
  • the last day to drop a course and not be liable for fees
  • the due date for payment.

When enrolling in a course via the Griffith Portal you must select the correct summer semester period (November/December 2011 [3118] or January/February 2012 [3119]) for a course.

The correct periods and deadlines for each course can be found on the Summer Course List. Please ensure you are familiar with the deadlines for a course before enrolling into a summer course.

For more information on enrolling and paying your fees, please refer to the How to apply and the Fees and charges pages.

Enrolling in all components of a course

During standard semesters students can enrol in all components of a course (the lecture, tutorial and workshops), this is not an option in summer semester. When you enrol in summer courses you will enrol in only one class per course.

Your timetable and Course Convenor will let you know exactly which components you must attend during summer semester.

Intensive mode delivery

Summer courses are taught in intensive mode, this means:

  • the teaching period for summer courses is often much shorter than in standard semesters (as short as 5 days)
  • the courses often involve full-time teaching (full day teaching sessions, that could run continuously for a number of days)
  • attending courses that may run over the weekend.

As summer courses are taught in intensive mode, timetable clashes can mean that students may be restricted to undertaking one or two courses at most.

For further summer semester enquiries please contact your nearest Student Centre.
