How to apply for credit
Once admitted into Griffith University ie you have been issued with a Griffith University student number, a student can apply for credit transfer by lodging a credit transfer application form.
The credit application form contains full details of the documentation you will be required to submit. In applying for credit where you have previously undertaken studies at a TAFE institute, you will need to provide:
- A certified copy of the completed TAFE award e.g. Diploma certificate; and
- Official academic records e.g. Academic Transcript, including an explanation of grades.
(Please note that although you may have provided copies of the above documents for admission purposes, you will also need to provide a copy for credit assessment).
By searching the University's Credit Precedent Database, you will be able to find whether Griffith has already calculated an articulation arrangement or credit precedent for your TAFE program of study. If no arrangements have been made you may email tafe-credit@griffith.edu.au for assistance with lodging your application.
TAFE graduates entering Griffith University having completed a dual Griffith University/TAFE program need to lodge a credit transfer form, but do not need to list courses on page 2. Your credit entitlement has already been determined and will automatically be transferred to your degree record. If this information is not on your Griffith academic record at the commencement of week 1, please email tafe-credit@griffith.edu.au for assistance.
The amount of credit you may receive will depend on the amount and type of study you have completed.Credit Precedent Database

TAFE students may enquire regarding their credit entitlement towards Griffith University programs by emailing tafe-credit@griffith.edu.au if there is no credit precedent listed.
Credit awarded
Applications for credit may be lodged at any time. However, they should normally be lodged no later than the last working day in the January or June preceding the commencement of any semester in which the award of credit may affect the student's study program.
Once your application has been processed (generally within 14 days of lodgement) you will be able to view a Transfer Credit Report or your Unofficial Transcript on the Griffith Portal.
Credit may be awarded as advanced standing, unspecified credit, specified credit or provisional credit. Refer to the credit transfer policy for descriptions of these terms.
Unspecified credit is only awarded where the program structure lists free-choice elective courses. Unspecified credit cannot be used for specified courses in the program.
Generally, where students receive up to 80CP in credit (with the exception of Nursing), credit will be a combination of first and second year level courses. Students will need to ensure they enrol in any first year courses for which credit has not been awarded.
