George Alexander Foundation (GAF) Scholarship at Griffith University

Alethea Coombe

scholarship student, alethia

Bach. Of Music (Performance - Violin)
Currently in 2nd year

The GAF scholarship has played a major part in my university life.
At Griffith University, the GAF scholar community inspires each other, both through excellence in their individual fields and community spirit – it is through this network that I was encouraged to participate in campus events and projects that I would not have done otherwise –for example, I helped design and run the Campus Carbon Challenge. These activities have really enriched and expanded my university life, and I am so thankful for the support of the GAF.

The financial assistance that the scholarship has provided has eased the need for me to work for living expenses, and instead I am able to fully engage with my musical study. Through this higher level of engagement, I have been given opportunities I otherwise would not have had – such as playing in various chamber music and modern music groups as well as academic groups.

Allen Boston

scholarship student, Allen

Bachelor of Photonics & Nanoscience
GAF Recipient (2007-2009)

As I am nearing the end of my third year at Griffith University and the end of my scholarship I am really appreciating the freedom and diversity it has given me over the past three years. These years have been very exciting and have passed very fast.

During the year I have helped with college life by volunteering to be a sober rep for a few organised events that were held, including Gender Bender and the College Ball. Also I have used the knowledge I have gained over the previous years by tutoring several people when they have needed some help to understand the studies that they have undertaken.

Again I would like to everyone involved with the George Alexander Foundation for everything they do. It has been a great help for me and likely many other people, it has enabled me to make an endeavor that may have otherwise been very hard. My memories of what George Alexander and his foundation have done for me shall persist for a very long time and I shall do my best to honor the great opportunity that was given to me and uphold his values.

Kaela Clifford

scholarship student, Clifford

Bachelor of Laws/ Bachelor of International Relations, Asian Studies, Politics and Government
Currently third year student

The George Alexander Foundation scholarship has made international experiences possible for me. The G.A.F scholarship allowed me to join the Honours College and this has then created the possibility for me to extend my knowledge by participating in International conferences in the Netherlands and Czech Republic with sponsorship from G.A.F. Without this scholarship the possibilities to travel abroad would not have presented and I would not have been able to broaden my horizons.
