Griffith University and the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans have a unique partnership, aimed at creating the perfect balance between professional sports and educational life skills.
The arrangement, established in 2008 and now renewed for the next three years, acts as the platform for members of the Titan’s NRL squad to further their education while still actively pursuing their sporting careers.
Almost 20 players from the Titans have taken the opportunity to study at Griffith, across a broad range of fields such as business, education, civil engineering and biomedical science.
Griffith University Vice Chancellor, Professor Ian O'Connor, believes the partnership is integral to the development of well rounded athletes and builds important connections with the local community.
"We are a university with a strong commitment to sport and understand the role it plays in a balanced educational environment.”
A cornerstone of the partnership is the Griffith-Titans scholarship, designed to give a helping hand to a student who has overcome significant adversity to study.
Griffith Sports College Manager and University alumnus, Michael Jeh, is also making a difference to the lives of these young athletes, acting as an administrator, organiser and mentor of additional programs like the Lifeskills for Elite Athletes and After the Siren initiatives.
2011 applications for Titans membership are now available.
