How to get to Griffith

The Gold Coast campus is centrally located in Southport, just north of Surfers Paradise, and is easily accessible by car, bus and train. The closest airport is located at Coolangatta which is a 40 minute drive south of the campus.

By bus

There are a number of bus routes to the Gold Coast campus. Current routes and timetables are available from the TransLink web site or by calling TransLink on 131230.

Please note:

The current Griffith University bus stops on University Drive will be relocated from Tuesday April 6, 2010 until further notice.
  • Passengers can instead walk 300 metres through the University, along Alumni Place to a temporary stop on Parklands Drive, right of the roundabout to access bus services
  • Routes 3, 707, 709 and 738 will depart from the new bus stop, located on Parklands Drive
  • Passengers should note the destination on the front of the bus or check with the driver before boarding as services heading in both directions depart from the same bus stop
  • TransLink apologises for any inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience during these important works. Visit TransLink web site or call TransLink on 13 12 30 any time for more information

By train

The closest train station to the Gold Coast campus is Helensvale. This station is situated north-west of the campus and is approximately 15 minutes by car and 20 minutes by bus. Trains to Brisbane and Robina, which is south-east of the campus, can be boarded at this station.

Bus connections run between Robina station, Helensvale station and the University.

By taxi

If you are using a taxi to come to the Gold Coast campus you will need to tell the driver to take you to Griffith University Gold Coast campus, off Parklands Drive, Southport. If you are going to the Centre for Medicine and Oral Health by taxi you need to tell the driver to take you to Griffith University, High Street, Southport.

When calling a taxi to exit the campus, check the taxi bay located outside the Link Building, on University Drive. There is also a taxi rank in Alumni Place and outside the Centre for Medicine and Oral Health.

By car

The Gold Coast campus is a 10 minute drive from the centre of the Gold Coast, 10 minutes drive to the nearest railway station and 45 minutes drive to Brisbane.

Carpooling at Griffith

Carpooling is a convenient, environmentally friendly and cost effective way to get to and from Uni. Visit the parking website for more information and to register.

By bicycle

Bicycles are a healthy and cost-effective method of transport. There are a number of free bicycle parking rails conveniently located at different areas around campus.

To avoid theft we recommend that cyclists use solid metal "D" clamps to secure their bikes.

The main bicycle parking locations are as follows;

  • Business 1 (G01) [eastern end]
  • Clinical Sciences 1 (G02)
  • Engineering entrance (G09) [north side]
  • Beach Volleyball courts near The Pavilion (G32)
  • University Drive [several locations]
  • Alumni Place [several locations]
  • Science Road near Visual Arts Building (G14)

Bicycle lockers are also available in Science Rd near Visual Arts (G14). These lockers are managed by the Gold Coast Student Guild.

Flying in

There is an airport at the Gold Coast, which is situated at Coolangatta. From the airport, travel north-west on the Gold Coast Highway. Turn left at Smith Street Southport (exit 66), take the Parklands Drive exit (left) and follow the signage into campus. Coolangatta airport is about 40 minutes by car from the campus.
Alternatively you could fly into Brisbane airport. Bus services are available from Brisbane Airport to Surfers Paradise from where bus connections are available to the campus. Brisbane airport is about 90 minutes by car from the campus.
