The position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Network Co-ordinator was created in 2008, and Dr Chris Matthews was appointed to the role in December. He reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research).
The Network aims to provide postgraduate research and career support to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholars at Griffith University, whilst developing a community-based research focus, and the Co-ordinator will progress this vision. The position involves liaison with individuals, organisations and groups, both within the University and nationally on research and project work. This includes advocating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aspirations for research higher degrees, facilitating pathways for academic career progression, and mentoring emerging researcher-academics. Part of the Co-ordinator's role is Griffith's response to the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community research and development agenda, and facilitating the production and dissemination of scholarly publications.
